
Track & Field's Geibel Named Academic All-District

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville sophomore thrower Holly Geibel has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's track & field/cross country second team.
Geibel, a native of Butler, Pa., has a 3.88 GPA in civil engineering in the classroom at U of L, while on the field she finished second in the javelin at the 2006 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships and was an NCAA Mideast Regional qualifier.
"We're very proud of Holly's academic accomplishments as well as what she's accomplished on the athletic field," said U of L head coach Ron Mann. "Holly is the epitome of what a student-athlete should be and we're extremely happy for her."
On May 7, Geibel earned a strong second-place finish in the javelin at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in Storrs, Conn., with a career-best throw of 152 feet, 9 inches, and on May 27, she closed out her season with 14th-place finish at the NCAA Mideast Regional in Knoxville, Tenn.
Overall, Geibel won a pair of javelin titles in 2006 (Ohio River Challenge, Indiana Relays) and earned six Top 5 finishes in nine events.
