
Oltean Signs with Men's Tennis

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Horatiu Oltean has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to continue his playing career with the Cardinals. He will be a freshman in the 2006-07 season.
Oltean, a native of Bucharest, Romania is a two-time national champion in singles and doubles. Oltean was the top-ranked Romanian in U-10, U-12, U14 and U-16 and is currently in the top three U-18 players. He was also ranked among the top 30 U-14 players in the world. Two years ago, he moved to Quebec, Canada where he is currently ranked among the top 10 junior players in Quebec.
"I am always looking for very athletic tennis players with great character, and Horatiu fits this description very well," said Ecarma. "He has achieved some big things early in his high school career and we feel he will thrive under our system of development at U of L. He is a great student that I feel will win the respect of his teammates and be a team leader one day."
Louisville (18-7) just won the 2006 BIG EAST Championship and earned its second consecutive and fifth overall NCAA tournament bid. The 2006 NCAA selections will be announced May 3 at 8:30 p.m.
