Orlando, Fla. - The University of Louisville men's golf team opened the 2006 spring season with a fourth-place finish at the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate at Rio Pinar Country Club. Lamar won the 18-team event by seven shots over Southern Miss, while the Cardinal's Casey Clendenon claimed medalist honors.
Louisville was in third-place after the first round, but shot 296 in the day's final round.
Sophomore Daryl Fathauer and Derek Fathauer paced the Cardinals with both finishing in the top 10. Daryl was fourth overall with 72-72-75=219, while Derek was tied for eighth at 70-77-74=221. Freshman Adam Hadwin was tied for 38th with 79-78-70=227.
Weather was a factor again Tuesday, but only during the morning hours. Play was delayed by 90 minutes because the entire course was blanketed in frost. The temperature then warmed to the mid 60s with very little wind and the field enjoyed the best conditions of the event.
Frost Monday morning delayed the start and caused play to be halted by darkness in the afternoon round. The field had to finish that round early Tuesday before beginning the third round.
Sophomore Adam Rainaud was tied for 52nd overall at 76-76-77=229 and senior Will Hanna was tied for 69th with 81-76-77=234.
Louisville returns to action on March 5-7 at the Hyatt Plantation Club Invitational in Puerto Rico.
