
No. 11 Field Hockey Set to Host Iowa

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The No. 11 ranked University of Louisville field hockey team will play host to Iowa (8-7, 2-3 Big Ten) Sunday at 1 p.m. at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals (12-6, 5-1 BIG EAST) will honor seniors Lauren Groff, Carrie Jackson, Jessica Javelet, Sara Jerousek, Jen Kastelic, Andrea Roussel and Lisa Wasser when Iowa pays a visit to Trager Stadium on Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.
U of L clinched a shared of the BIG EAST regular season title by sweeping the final two league games of the season. The Cards posted a 5-0 win over Georgetown and a 4-1 win over Rutgers. Senior midfielder Jessica Javelet leads the team with 18 goals and 46 points (18G, 10A) and is second in assists. Junior Janelle Avila stands second on the team with 26 points (7G, 12A). Seniors Lisa Wasser and Jen Kastelic are having career best offensive seasons with nine and eight goals respectively.
Iowa (8-7, 2-3 Big Ten) is receiving votes in the NFHCA Coaches poll. The Hawkeyes will visit Big Ten opponent, seventh-ranked Penn State Friday before traveling to Louisville's Trager Stadium. Sophomore forward Caitlin McCurdy leads the team with 20 points (9G, 2A). Junior back Kadi Sickel follows with 15 points ((3G, 9A).
U of L will then prepare to host the 2006 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship which will be held Nov. 4-5 at Trager Stadium.

Last Meeting: 10/29/05 - U of L won 5-2 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Notes: In the 2005 meeting, the then-12th-ranked Cards wrapped up the regular season with a couple of quality wins at Michigan. They topped then-10th ranked Iowa 5-2 with Jessica Javelet and Casey Diener scoring a pair of goals apiece and 2005 senior Jen Payne also adding a goal. Kadi Sickel and Kelly Slattery accounted for Iowa's goals.

Javelet and Wasser selected to play in Senior All-Star Game
Jessica Javelet and Lisa Wasser have been selected to play in the 2006 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior All-Star game. The game will held Saturday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. EST at Wake Forest's Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., in conjunction with the NCAA national championship.
Javelet leads the team with 18 goals and 46 assists and also stands tenth in the nation in goals and points per game. The two-time All-American and 2005 BIG EAST Player of the Year owns every offensive single season and career at U of L.
Wasser is second on the team with a career-high nine goals and is third with 25 points. The four-year starter and three-time field captain earned all-conference honors her sophomore and junior years and has not missed a start in her career at U of L.
Note Cards
• Jessica Javelet has registered a goal or an assist in eleven straight games dating back to the 5-2 win over Syracuse on Sept. 22. During that time, she has scored 12 goals and dished out three assists and the Cards gone 6-3 with loss to No. 10 UConn (3-1), No. 14 Cal (5-3) and No. 7 Ohio State (4-3/OT)- none of those losses were shutouts.

Javelet can dish it out
Senior midfielder Jessica Javelet's assist in the Oct. 11 Ohio State game was her 36th career feed, giving her sole possession of the school's career record. She surpassed former Cardinal All-American Pip Sanders for the school's all-time record. Javelet now has 38 career feeds and owns every single season and career record at Louisville.
Tough schedule
U of L is in the midst of one of the toughest schedules in program history. Three of the Cards' six losses have come to then- No. 3 ranked Duke (2-1), No. 2 Wake Forest (5-1) and No. 4 Ohio State (4-3/OT). Both Duke and Wake were 2005 NCAA semi finalists. Louisville just completed a seven-game homestand in which six top 20 teams visited Trager Stadium. The Cards went 4-3 during that timeframe.
Javelet up to her old `tricks'
Jessica Javelet holds the school record for most hat tricks with seven in her career. After recording four in 2005, she registered two in a week this season.

Cards on the national scene U of L stayed at No. 11 in the most recent NFHCA rankings (10/24). The Cards have appeared in the team rankings every week since Sept. 13, 2005.
The Cardinals are also among the nation's best in several categories including: scoring average (5th/3.6), goals per game (6th/3.61) assists (10th/2.56), points (7th/9.78) and scoring margin (14th/1.71).
Several players are also making noise on the national scene. Senior midfielder Jessica Javelet is 10th with 2.56 points per game and 10th with 1.0 goal per game. Junior forward Janelle Avila is 12th with 0.67 assists per game. Goalkeeper junior Marie-Claire Heller is ranked 24th with a 0.766 save percentage.
Cards spreading the offense
Ten Cardinals have combined to score Louisville's 65 goals with senior Jessica Javelet leading the way with 18. Senior Lisa Wasser follows with a career-high nine goals while senior Jen Kastelic has a career-best eight. Junior Allison Maffitt has six in her first year as a starter.
This is a marked change from last year's team in which Javelet led the nation with 30 goals and Janelle Avila was fifth with 20. Javelet and Avila accounted for over half of the Cards' record-setting total of 91 goals.
Bustin reaches 100 career wins
Head coach Pam Bustin posted her 100th career win with Louisville's 5-1 victory over Dartmouth on Sept. 3. Bustin, who began her coaching career with a 9-9 record at Hofstra in 1997 has compiled a 107-98 overall record in her tenth season. She took over the reins of the Cardinal field hockey program in 1998, inheriting a program in the midst of a 35-game losing streak. The Cards have not had a losing season wince 1999. Bustin currently has a 98-89 record at U of L.
Bustin posts 100 wins at U of L
The 4-1 win over Rutgers was head coach Pam Bustin's 100th victory at the University of Louisville, she now has a 100-89 record at U of L and 109-98 overall record.
Avila hitting the (record) books
Junior forward Janelle Avila has jumped to second on the U of L career points list with 86. She recently surpassed Olivia Netzler's mark of 80. Jessica Javelet holds the record with 176 career points.
Avila also stands at third place in the with 33 career goals. Sherry Effinger is second with 38 goals while Javelet holds the record with 69.
