MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - - The 26th ranked doubles team of seniors Slavko Radman and Damar Johnson advanced to the finals of the ITA Midwest Regional Monday at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center. Radman and Johnson will face the winner of the other semifinal match between No. 9 seeded Ohio State's Drew Eberly and Justin Kronage and the tournament's No. 2 seeded team of Notre Dame's Ryan Keckley and Sherra Parbhu. The doubles champion will earn a spot in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 2-5, at Ohio State University.
"To make it to finals of Midwest Regional Championship is a great accomplishment in itself and we are definitely focusing on finishing the job of achieving the goal that we started on Friday - which is to win this championship," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma.
Radman and Johnson, the tournament's top-seeded doubles team rolled to an 8-3 win over Ohio State's Chris Klingmann and Devin Mullings in the quarterfinals. They followed with an 8-6 semifinal win over Michigan State's Adam Monich and Nick Rinks, the third-seeded team in the tournament.
"Slavko and Damar are playing as a team very well with one setting up the other," said Ecarma. "They are playing to their strengths with Slavko serving and returning and Damar using his speed and quickness to fly around and make difficult volleys look easy. We are basically using the same formula as Bobby Petrino, playing to our strengths as many points as possible and basically have a `feed the stud' attitude. We are excited about being in the finals, but realize we came here as the number one seed to win this championship and become the first U of L team to do so."
