CHICAGO. Ill. - Junior forward Jamie Craft had a goal and an assist in leading the University of Louisville women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over DePaul on Friday afternoon.
The win improves the Cards' record to 7-2-0 overall and an unblemished 2-0-0 in the BIG EAST.
The teams were scoreless at halftime.
"The first half was rather uneventful," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"Jen Avila marked their best player, Julianne Stich and kept her in check. We made some adjustments in the midfield at half, and because of that we were able to put them under some pressure."
The pressure paid immediate dividends in the second half, as Craft utilized her speed to get behind the defense and notch her fourth goal of the season just 4:27 into the second half for a 1-0 U of L lead.
Shannon Smyth and Monique Gjini picked up assists on the Craft goal.
The game winner came off of a Craft pass to Lauren Podvin in the 66th minute.
Podvin took the feed at the top of the box, turned and unloaded a rocket into the top right corner of the net, her second of the season to put the Cards up 2-0.
"That was a fantastic shot," said Ferguson.
The Cards withstood some intense pressure from the Blue Demons (2-5-1, 0-2-0 BIG EAST), and finally succumbed when Molly Borchard capitalized on a Cardinal mistake by finding Lea Hill for her first goal of the year at 84:30.
Shots were even at seven at half and 12 for the game, with DePaul outcornering U of L 5-0 for the match.
Craft lead the Cards with five shots, three of which were on goal.
Louisville will host 2004 NCAA champs Notre Dame(8-1-0, 2-0-0), who is curently ranked fifth in the country, on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET in Cardinal Park. Admission is free and it is Alumnae Weekend.
