
Lena Ustymenko Named CVU.com National Player of the Week

Senior volleyball player Lena Ustymenko was named Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) National Player of Week for Sept. 12 through Sept. 18.
The 6-3 outside hitter from Kiev, Ukraine led the Cardinals to a 3-0 weekend at the Green and Gold Challenge in Miami, and helping to boost U of L to a No. 7 ranking.
Ustymenko started off the weekend with 24 kills on .341 hitting against Michigan State. She notched a double-double with 12 digs and added five service aces.
Against Sacramento State, she had 16 digs and two blocks along with three aces in the sweep.
Then, enroute to All-Challenge MVP honors, she hit .427 with 24 kills in the 3-1 over host Miami. She finished the 12-game run with 57 kills on .333 hitting, averaging 4.75 kills per game. She also had 10 aces, 35 digs and four blocks.
