
Softball Sweeps No. 25 DePaul 4-0 and 10-2

CHICAGO - - The University of Louisville softball team swept host No. 25 DePaul 4-0 and 10-2 Saturday at Wish Field. The teams are now tied for first place in Conference USA standings and will meet Sunday at noon to determine the regular season champion.
In the first game, the Cards took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Audrey Rendon reached on an infield hit and stole second. Courtney Moore stepped up to the plate and blasted her 13th home run of the season.
Louisville added another run in the sixth when Lacy Wood reached on an error to lead off the inning and crossed the plate on Sara Bausher's double to make it a 3-0 game.
The Cards put up another run in the seventh when Rendon delivered a two-out bunt single, stole second and came home on a double by Candi Hicks.
Louisville starter Aja Sherman (19-9) picked up her eleventh shutout of the season, scattering two hits and striking out 14 in seven innings. Offensively, the Cards had nine hits in the game. Rendon was 3 for 4 with two runs and two stolen bases. Hicks was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Megan Huitink (16-10) took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits and striking out seven in six innings.
In game two, the Cards jumped to an early lead when Rendon reached on a leadoff error and scored on a double by Hicks. Moore singled to place runners on first and second. Wood delivered a base hit to send Hicks home, making it a 2-0 game.
U of L put up a four spot in the second when Sarah Totten reached on an error and Lisa Estes walked. Both runners scored when the Blue Demons committed an error on Leslie Garland's sacrifice bunt. Hicks singled to bring Garland home. She stole second and scored when Wood grounded out to give the Cards a 6-0 lead.
The seventh inning saw four more Louisville runs as Wood singled, and took third on a double by Michelle Vasquez. Wood crossed the plate on Bausher's base hit. Garland delivered a two-run double to send Bausher and Vasquez home. Rendon's single scored Garland to make it a 10-0 game.
The Blue Demons got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh when Jenny Doezie reached on an error and scored on a double by Katie Sheaks. Dana Kenney singled to bring Wilus home for the 10-2 final score.
Catherine Bishop (20-7) got the win, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and striking out eight in seven innings. Offensively Louisville had 13 hits. Garland was 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI. Rendon, Moore, Wood and Vasquez also had two hits each.
DePaul's Tracie Adix (21-6) took the loss, allowing six unearned runs on four hits. Offensively, the Blue Demons had five hits in the game. Kate Sheaks was 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI. DePaul falls to 37-17 (19-4, C-USA).
Louisville (39-16, 19-4) will try to claim its first regular season league championship when the teams meet in the final regular season game Sunday at 1 p.m. (Eastern).
