
Softball Blanks the Billikens

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Candi Hicks went 3-for-3 with a homer, a triple, a double, five RBI and two runs scored as the University of Louisville softball team defeated Saint Louis University 11-0 in five innings Saturday April 23 at Ulmer Stadium.
The Cards (30-16) jumped ahead in the bottom of the first when Audrey Rendon led off the inning with a triple and then scored on Candi Hicks' triple off the right field fence. Hicks crossed the plate with Courtney Moore's single up the middle. Michelle Vasquez hit a single to left moving Moore to second. Lisa Estes' groundout put the runners in scoring position with two outs. Sarah Totten had a base hit to center scoring Moore and Vasquez, making the game 4-0.
U of L added three more runs in the bottom of the second with a lead off single by Leslie Garland. Garland stole second and advanced to third on a Saint Louis pass ball. Garland reached home on a two run shot to center by Hicks. Lacy Wood kept the two-out rally going with a single to left. Vasquez hit a double to right-center scoring Wood for a 7-0 lead.
Louisville increased their lead in the bottom of the third when Sara Bausher reached on a Billiken fielding error. Bausher was thrown out at third on Garland's single to right, Garland advanced to second on the throw. Rendon's single moved Garland to third with one out. Hicks sent home Garland and Rendon with a double to right center to make the game 9-0.
The Cards added two more in the bottom of the fourth when Totten lead off the inning with a triple. Louisville pinch hitter, Jenn Skaggs hit a two homerun to right increasing the Cards lead to 11-0.
Louisville starter Catherine Bishop (16-7) picked up her ninth shutout of the season allowing only one hit and striking out seven in four innings. Offensively, the Cards had 17 hits on the contest. Freshman Sarah Totten went 2-for-3 with a triple, a single, two RBI and one run scored.
Saint Louis starter Lorena Floccari (12-14) took the loss allowing six earned runs off of seven hits in 1.1 innings.
The Cards will host Saint Louis (18-26-1) in a double header at 12:00 p.m. Sunday April 24 at Ulmer Stadium.
