Lafayette, La. - Freshman Daryl Fathauer became the 16th different golfer from the University of Louisville to win a tournament, as the rookie won the rain-shortened Louisiana Classic with a score of 71-69=140 on Tuesday in Lafayette, La.
The rookie from Jensen Beach, Fla., joins current teammate Charlie Woo as the last two medalists for the Cardinals. Woo also won the Cardinal Intercollegiate earlier this year.
Fathauer shot a final-round three-under-par 69 to win by two strokes over Tyler Docking of Kansas and Dan Kleckner of SMU.
Southern Methodist won its fourth consecutive tournament championship with a six-over-par 582. Tulsa and Kent State finished tied for second with a seven-over-par 583. Kansas and Louisville finished tied for fourth with a 10-over-par 586.
Freshman Daryl Fathauer placed in a tie for 15th with a two-round score of 74-73=147. Senior Charlie Woo gave the Cardinals three in the top 20 with a tie for 18th place after firing 72-76=148. Freshman Adam Rainaud was tied for 38th with 75-76=151, while senior Brett Jones carded an 81-78=159 to place in a tie for 73rd.
The Cardinals return to action on March 14-15 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
