Freshman Adam Madarassy's time in the 200-fly was fast enough to vault him into the NCAA Championship Meet March 24-26 in Minneapolis.
The freshman from Budapest, Hungary, is seeded 18th in the 200-fly and is the third fastest freshman in the event with his time of 1:45.73. The fastest time this year in the event is 1:42.86.
"This is the real deal," said an elated Arthur Albiero, U of L head coach. "This is huge for Adam and more huge for our swimming and diving program. This goes to show that we are improving rapidly and huge stepping stone for the future of the program."
Madarassy will also swim the 100-fly where he is seeded 35th. He is the first swimmer to advance to the championship under Albiero's tenure at Louisville.
The aquatic Cardinals set 30-record for the season, and 28 at the Conference Meet.
"This is tangible evidence how important it is to have the right people in place and great support from our athletic administration," said Albiero.
