Karen Criss from Omaha, Nebraska has signed a national-letter-of-intent to continue her swimming career at the University of Louisville.
"Karen comes from an very athletic family as her mother was a college volleyball player while her father played professional basketball in Europe and South America," said head coach Arthur Albiero. "Karen is a great competitor and she will bring great versatility to our squad. She will have a significant impact in the backstroke events, but also the 200-IM and sprint freestyle events."
Karen, a member of the Brownell Talbot Raiders Swim Club where she was coached by Jeanie Neal, swims for Marian High School for Pat Dibase as an 11-time High School All-American.
She was the 2003 Midwestern Swimming Junior Swimmer of the Year and holds six individual and 18 relay records for Midwestern Swimming. She was the 2003 High School Conference Swimmer of the Meet and the 2004 High School 200-Medley Relay team that was ranked No. 8 in the nation. She is a member of the 2004 No. 1 ranked Independent School in the nation and the anchor of the Midwestern Record and Sectional Record-holding 400-free relay team.
"She has the chance to become the first female high school swimmer in Nebraska to win 8 individual events at the Nebraska State Meet (she currently has 6 titles), so she knows winning," said Albiero.
