LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that David Simon has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to continue his playing career with the Cardinals. He will be a freshman in the 2006-07 season.
Simon, a native of Vienna Austria, is currently the top-ranked player in Austria, ranked in the top 15 in Europe and is No. 91 in the world. He won the Costa Rica Bowl, was a finalist in the Chandra Rubin International and played in the U.S. Open, the Orange Bowl and the Canadian Open juniors championships.
"David is a blockbuster recruit," said Ecarma. "I project him to be one of the elite high school/junior players going into college next year. He can step in and make a sudden impact on our team and in the Big East. He plans to play in the Australian, French Open, U.S. Open and Wimbledon junior tournaments before coming to U of L and we expect him to gain a lot of experience. David was recruited by a multitude of colleges, including the No. 1 and No. 3 ranked teams in the country. He will be the heir apparent of Damar Johnson or Slavko Radman, eventually taking over the No. 1 singles spot."
Louisville will open the 2006 spring season on January 13 when the Cards play host to Northwestern the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at 5:00 p.m.
