The University of Louisville swimming and diving team completed the final day of the Indiana University Invitational with a flourish as freshman Vali Preda won the 200-breast, making NCAA B time in the process as one highlight of the three day meet.
"It as a tough weekend and racing and we learned a lot about our team and they learned a lot about themselves over the weekend," said Arthur Albiero, U of L swim coach.
In the 200-back, Larissa Niehoff had a season best 2:09.03 to lead off the day. In the men's 200-back, Andrei Teudean also had a season best 1:49.72 which was good for second place. In the 100-free, Kate Wilson made her BIG EAST qualifying time in a swim off. Teammate Leslie VanWinkle, who had a difficult back to back swim in the 200-breast and the 100free, had a sixth plae in the 100-free.
Heather Meng, who won the 100-breast yesterday made it a sweep with a win in the 200-breast. U of L had three women in the finals in that event with VanWinkle and Johanna Nyysti going fourth and seventh respectively.
"Heather had a sweep in the breaststroke," said Albiero. "That was good stuff."
In the 200-fly, Abby Miller and Jenny Schimenti made the finals with a fourth and a seventh and for the men Tyler Smith finished third.
"Overall the meet was a positive one for us, very tough format but a great way to close out our first session of the schedule," said Albiero. "We will take a select group to the US Open and then gear up for training over the holidays. We saw some good things and we still have a lot of work to do."
