A win in 100-breast was just one highlight of the finals of Day two at the Indiana University Invitational in Bloomington.
"We came here to accomplished a lot things and acheived most of our goals. One was to get a championship format under our belt. It is a mental challenge to endure six sessions without being fully rested for it, but overall the team has answered the bell," said Arthur Albiero, U of L head coach.
The U of L men started out strong with a fourth place finish in the 200-Medley Relay manned by Andrei Teudean, Vali Preda, Matt Maley and Jon Farnham.
Abby Miller finished second in the 400-IM with a time of 4:24.52 for her season best. In that same event, Tyler Smith finished second in the B-Finals in another season best for him.
In the 100 fly, Jenny Schimenti finished eighth in the A-Finals.Meg Densmore 10053 in the fly for a season best for her as well. Matt Maley was just touched out by two one-hundreths of a second in the 100-fly. Teudean was second in the B-Finals in that event as well. Pinkston was 13th overall.
"That was 'big boy swim' for Maley and it was very impressive," said Albiero.
In the 200-Free, Melanie Greyling finished third just missing her lifetime best by five one-hundreths. Teammate Leslie VanWinkle was hot in her wake with a fourth place touch. For the men, Charlton Lawson was third and Matt Maley was eighth for the Cardinals.
"The 200-free was right off the 100-fly and Matt didn't quite have enough gas in the tank but it was still a good swim for him," said Albiero.
Heather Meng and Johanna Nyysti went first and second in a blistering 100-breaststroke final to sweep. For the men in the 100-breast, Vali Preda was second in the A-Finals and Chris Lindauer was third in the B-Finals.
"Heather and Johanna traded spots after qualifying in each other's spot in two very good swims for them," said Albiero. "Vali had an amazing swim especially with very little rest, really establishing himself as a force."
In the 100-back, Teudean continued his strong meet with a fourth place in the A-Finals. For the women, Larissa Niehoff had the best performance for the women with a fifth in the B-Finals.
In the 800-Medley Relay, VanWinkle, Leigh Smihth, Ashley Jackson and Melanie Greyling combined for a third team finish.
A solid swim on a long day of racing, some our our kids had swam six or seven races earlier in the day before this race." said Albiero.
