2005 NCAA Field Hockey Semifinals Set

The 2005 NCAA Field Hockey Championship field has been set with each of the four seeded teams reaching the semifinal games. Top-seeded Maryland will play fourth-seeded Old Dominion at 5:00 p.m., while second-seeded Wake Forest and third-seeded Duke are slated for the 7:30 p.m. game Friday, Nov. 18 at the University of Louisville's Trager Stadium. The championship game will be held Sunday, Nov. 20 at 12:30 p.m. and will be televised by CSTV.
Top-ranked Maryland defeated Richmond 3-0 Sunday in the quarterfinals after picking up 4-0 win over Richmond in Saturday's first round. The Terrapins (21-2) clinched the Atlantic Coast Conference crown with a 3-2 win over previously undefeated Wake Forest. Maryland is making its third straight appearance in the semifinals and is looking for its fourth NCAA championship with the most recent title coming in 1999.
Old Dominion (19-5) received the Colonial Athletic Association's automatic bid and was awarded the fourth seed in the NCAA's 16-team field. The third-ranked Monarchs opened the tournament with a 5-4 win over host Ohio State Saturday's first round game and defeated Michigan 3-2 Sunday to reach the semifinals. ODU has won a record nine NCAA championships with its most recent title in 2000.
Three-time defending national champion Wake Forest returns to Trager Stadium, the site of its first national championship in 2002. The second-ranked Demon Deacons (21-1) received the tournament's No. 2 seed, with their only loss of the season coming to Maryland in the ACC championship game. Wake edged California 1-0 in the first round and rolled over Indiana 5-0 in the second round to reach the semifinals.
Duke (17-4) earned its third straight trip to the semifinals with a 3-2 double-overtime win over Connecticut Sunday. The Blue Devils also survived a 3-2 double overtime win over host Princeton in Saturday's first round game. Fourth-ranked Duke received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament and is looking for its first national title after appearing in the championship game the past two years.
The semifinal games will take place on Friday, Nov. 18 at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with the final game slated for Sunday, Nov. 20 at 12:30 p.m. Sunday's championship game will be televised by CSTV. Single game tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students with a valid student I.D. Tournament passes are priced at $15 for adults and $7 for students. In addition to the NCAA tournament games, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association North/South Senior All-Star Games will take place on Nov. 19. The NFHCA contests will showcase the top field hockey seniors in NCAA Divisions I and II. The NFHCA Division I and II North/South All-Star games will take place Saturday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
