Men's Golf Ends Fall Season With Third-Place Finish

LAKESIDE, Calif. - - The University of Louisville men's golf team finished the 2005 Barona Collegiate Cup in third place at Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside, Calif. The two-day tournament, hosted by San Diego State, saw the Cardinals shoot a 27-under par (837) in the 19-team field.

After beginning the day in ninth place, Louisville finished the second round with a team score of 279 (-9) to propel them into seventh place, but the Cardinals came to life in the third round by shooting 275 (-13). All five Cardinals' shot under-par third rounds. Sophomore Derek Fathauer led the way shooting a 5-under par 67. He combined wit his brother Daryl to fire 206 to place in an overall tie for seventh place. Daryl shot 72-66-68=206, while Derek carded 71-68-67=206.

Senior Brett Holmes shot under par in three rounds, carding 70-71-71=212 to finish in a tie for 31st, while Will Hanna was 41st with 70-74-70=214. Freshman Adam Hadwin was tied for 79th at 74-78-70=222.

This is the final tournament of the fall for the Cardinals.
