LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma announced that the 2004-05 men's tennis schedule has been set. The Cardinals will participate in six fall tournaments, including the seventh annual Louisville Invitational Oct. 8-10 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The spring lineup features five teams which finished the 2003-04 season ranked in the top 25 including: No. 6 Georgia, No. 14 Kentucky, No. 16 Vanderbilt, No. 22 Harvard and No. 25 Clemson. "This is an extremely ambitious schedule for us," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Half of our match dates will have us going against top 25 teams and teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament last season. We have the potential to reach higher in the team rankings than we have ever been. I always tell the players that to accomplish something exceptional, you have to set high goals and take risks." U of L finished the 2003-04 season with a 19-9 record and an NCAA regional appearance. The Cardinals were No. 40 in the final ITA rankings. The Cardinals return seven letterwinners from that team, including seniors Octavian Nicodim and Mark Kennedy. Juniors Jakob Gustafsson is coming off of a team-best 31- win season in singles, along with junior Jeremy Clark who had 25 singles wins and was ranked as high as No. 18 in doubles. Sophomore Damar Johnson also returns fresh off of a 21-win freshman season in which he was ranked among the top 100 players in the nation. Louisville will open the 2004-05 season at the Ball State Invitational Sept. 17-19.
