LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville rowing head coach Richard Ruggieri announced the addition of assistant coach Laura Fogt to the Cardinals' rowing program. Fogt, who will work primarily with the varsity squad as well as assisting with the development of the novice squad and with recruiting, arrives in Louisville after serving the past three years as an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina. "We're excited to have someone with Laura's background and energy join the Louisville rowing program," said Ruggieri. "She's a perfect fit for our coaching staff and we'll see the benefits of her addition immediately. I really believe she will help take us to the next level." Fogt brings six years of rowing and coaching experience from UNC to Louisville. While at Carolina, Fogt served as the novice coach and recruiting coordinator. Fogt's crews experienced much success under her guidance with back-to-back top-5 finishes at the Head of the Chattahoochee in 2002 and 2003, a bronze medal at the 2004 Dad Vail Championships and a strong finish at the 2004 NCAA South Central Championship. "It is a very exciting time to be involved with U of L athletics, and I look forward to helping take the program to the next level," said Fogt. "Richard (Ruggieri) and (assistant coach) Laurie (Featherstone) are great coaches to work with, and it should be a great year for U of L rowing." A 2001 graduate of UNC, Fogt earned her degree from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in public relations. Fogt helped lead the Tar Heels to their first-ever top 25 finish and is a two-time letter winner at UNC. As a senior, Fogt earned MVP honors as well as being named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-South Region second team. The Cardinals will open the 2004 fall rowing season on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Murray State.
