University of Louisville field hockey player Jessica Javelet was named to the 2004 STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-American third team. Javelet is the third U of L player to earn All-American honors in the past four years.
Javelet, a sophomore forward from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., was a 2004 All-Mid-American Conference first team selection and was named to the STX/NFHCA Division I All-West Region first team. She led the Cardinals and the conference with 15 goals and is third on the school's list for single-season goals. Her 41 points also led the team, and the MAC. She is also tied for 20th in the country in that category. Javelet also stands at second on the school's list for single-season points. She had a team-leading 11 assists and finished second in the league in that category. Javelet earned MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors twice this season, on Sept. 6 and Oct. 4 and was named to the Women'sfieldhockey.com honor roll on Oct. 19.
"We're extremely proud and excited that JJ's dedication has been rewarded. She has worked very hard to earn this honor," said U of L field hockey coach Pam Bustin. "Last year, she was sidelined by injury in the middle of the season, but was able to come through for us at the end. After her freshman year, she worked hard in the spring and played great team hockey in the fall. This honor is also a reflection of the entire team and JJ has been an important part of Team Cardinal and its success."
U of L finished the 2004 season with a 12-10 overall record and posted a program-best 8-2 MAC record while tying Kent State for the regular season championship. After winning their second consecutive MAC Tournament, the Cards fell to Pacific 1-0 in overtime in an NCAA play-in game.
