Three members of the University of Louisville men's tennis team competed in the Pre-qualifying round of the Icy Hot/Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships Chattanooga, Tenn., Oct. 1-3. The Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.

The doubles team of junior Jhonny Berrido and senior Octavian Nicodim advanced to the round of 32 before they were edged by East Tennessee State's Felix Insaurralde and Oscor Oosada 9-8(4). Berrido and Nicodim defeated Middle Tennessee's Greg Pollack and Arant Sitaram 8-4 in the first round and beat Furman's Brennan Phippen and Alen Simmons 9-7.

In singles, junior Jeremy Clark topped Dinko Halachev of Arkansas-Little Rock 6-4, 6-1 and then fell in three sets to Central Florida's Ener Gursoy 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. Junior Jhonny Berrido defeated Andrei Nocoara of Arkansas 6-4, 6-3 and lost to Alabama's Eric Molnar 6-4, 6-1. Nicodim lost to Vanderbilt's Andy Mack 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

"Making it to the third round a tiebreaker from the round of 16 is a good showing for our new doubles team of Octavian Nicodim and Jhonny Berrido," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Octavian and Jhonny showed that they have the potential to be a big threat in doubles. It was great to see how well they played together in spite of this being their first tournament as a doubles team."
