Softball Defeats Bowling Green 5-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville softball team defeated Bowling Green State 5-2 Friday at Ulmer Softball Stadium.
The Falcons took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Candace Fenton drew a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Libby Voshell.
The Cardinals answered in the bottom half of the inning when Sara Bausher singled, took second when Lacy Wood grounded out and scored on a hit by Keola Calderon to tie the game at 1-1.
Louisville put up a four-spot in the third when Bausher doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and crossed the plate on a single by Nicole Sparks. Wood followed with a base hit. Aja Sherman's single brought Sparks home to give the Cards a 3-1 lead. Wood scored when Lisa McMillan grounded out and Sherman crossed the plate on a Bowling Green error on the play to make it a 5-1 game
The Falcons added a run in the fourth when Voshell doubled to lead off the inning, took third when Gina Rango flied out and came home on Valerie Tipton's hit to make the score 5-2.
Louisville reliever Jessica Rak (2-2) picked up the win allowing four hits and striking out five and holding the Falcons scoreless in 3.2 innings. Offensively, the Cardinals had 10 hits in the contest. Bausher finished the game batting 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Estes was 2-for-2 with a double.
Bowling Green starter Jody Johnson (1-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and striking out two in two innings. Voshell was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored. The Falcons (2-4) will play Illinois State (6-8) Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ulmer Stadium in the first game of Louisville's Red and Black Classic.
Louisville (4-6) will play Ohio University (1-1) Saturday in the 3:00 p.m. game.
