LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team defeated Ohio University 8-0 in six innings at Ulmer Stadium Saturday in the Red and Black Classic. Sophomore Aja Sherman posted her first career shutout and no-hitter.
The Cardinals began the scoring in the second inning when Lisa Estes and Michelle Vasquez delivered back-to-back singles. Shannon Nord's base hit brought Estes home. Sara Bausher's two-run double scored Vasquez and Nord to give Louisville a 3-0 lead.
U of L add another run in the fourth when Estes led off the inning with a hit, moved to second on Nord's sacrifice bunt, took third when Lisa McMillan grounded out and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 4-0 game.
The Cards tacked on three more runs in the fifth when Amy Summers and Lacy Wood each singled to set up Keola Calderon's three-run homer, increasing U of L's lead to 7-0.
Louisville's final run came in the sixth when Nord beat out Ohio pitcher Candy Warden's throw for a single, stole second and scored on Sara Bausher's hit to make it an 8-0 game.
