Men's Tennis Falls to No. 14 Vanderbilt

The University of Louisville men's tennis team caught the No. 14-ranked Vanderbilt team on a mission after their loss to No. 2 Florida last Sunday in Gainesville and ended up on the wrong end of a 7-0 defeat. The shutout score does not reflect the competitive nature of the match.
The 14th-ranked Vanderbilt men's tennis team matched its win total from the entire 2002 season on Wednesday, as it defeated No. 44-ranked Cardinals at the Brownlee O. Currey Tennis Center. With the win, the Commodores improve to 11-2 overall, while the game Louisville team falls to 11-4.
Four of the six singles matches went to three sets as the Cardinals fought to upset Vandy. Octavian Nicodim was blanked his first set 6-0 but scrapped back to a 7-5 win and then was edged 7-6 at No. 3 singles. Jhonny Berrido lost his first set and then swept Zach Dailey 6-0 in the second. Dailey recovered to win the third 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Matt Mayer was nipped 7-6 in the first set and then won 6-3 in the second before falling 10-4 in the final set over Scott Brown at No. 5.
The Commodores won the doubles point, as they swept the three doubles matches against the Cardinals. Vanderbilt had won 11 straight doubles point prior to its match with the Gators. Octavian Nicodim and Sebastian Aspillaga challenged at the No. 3 spot but fell 8-5.
