Men's Tennis upsets #16 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Cardinals lost the doubles point to start the match. At the top seed Mark Henderson and Simon Rea upset 22nd ranked Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim 8-4. At the No.2 slot Mark Dietrich and Wade Orr defeated Matt Mayer and Harry Walsh 8-6. In the 3rd slot Rawl Martin and Vincent Perna defeated Paulo Carvalho and Jake Kirts 8-3.

Louisville bounced back to take four of five singles points. In the top seed, No.27 Simon Rea defeated No.111 Paulo Carvalho 6-4, 6-1. Cody Conley out lasted No.56 Mark Dietich to win in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the no.2 slot. In the 3 and 4 slots Matt Mayer defeated Mark Henderson 6-3, 6-3 and Jhonny Berrido defeated Vincent Perna 6-4, 6-4.

"Beating Tennessee at Tennessee is like a dream day because so few teams come here and beat these guys at home because they are so good," Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma said. "We just caught them at a good year and at a good moment because for us to even be mentioned in the same sentence as Tennessee is not justice. That's an elite team--a top two or three team. We're just trying to get into the top 25. This is big to us and I just hope we can enjoy this for a while."

U of L (6-1) will play host to Kentucky at the Louisville Tennis Club on February 15th at 1:00 p.m.
