Brett Jones and the University of Louisville men's golf team were unable to regain their record-setting second round form as the Cards posted a final round 300 to finish tied for eighth place at the Beau Chene Collegiate Classic in their first event of the spring season.
The Cards used a tournament record 12-under-par 276 in the second round to rebound from a sluggish 11-over-par opening round start on Monday, however, they were unable to catch lighting in a bottle once again as they slumped into an eighth place finish on Tuesday.
Unlike Monday's record-setting second round in which four of five Cards carded rounds of at least one-under-par 71, the best the Cards could muster in Tuesday's final round were a trio of two-over-par 74s by sophomore Mark Anderson and freshmen Will Hanna and Tim Powell.
Jones, who was tied for third place after posting a career-best 66 in the second round, slipped into a tie for 16th-place with a one-under 215 (71-66-78) after posting a final round 78, the second-highest round of his collegiate career. Anderson, who was consistent all three rounds, finished tied for 31st-place at four-over-par 220 (73-73-74).
Hanna, who notched a career-best 69 in the second round, slipped into a tie for 43rd-place with a seven-over-par 223 (80-69-74), while sophomore Charlie Woo slipped into a tie for 47th-place with an eight-over-par 224 (75-70-79) with a final round 79. Powell, who started the event slowly with an opening round 80, showed improvement over the final two rounds to finish tied for 53rd with a nine-over-par 225 (80-71-74).
