Rowers Win Three Medals at Head of the Mon Regatta

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The University of Louisville rowing team won three medals Saturday at the Head of the Mon Regatta in Morgantown, W.Va. West Virginia University hosted the inaugural event.
In the Varsity Pair competition, Louisville came away with a silver and a bronze medal. Junior Brooke Spence and sophomore Lisa Terreberry finished second in the 3.4-mile race with a time of 24 minutes, 14.93 seconds, just two seconds behind race winner Duke. The pair of senior Leslie Walters and freshman Lia Renaud was third with a time of 24:30.75.
The Cardinals' Novice 8+ crew made a solid collegiate debut by winning a bronze medal in the seven-team race. Louisville finished with a time of 22:58.29. Clemson won the race in 21:20.47, while Virginia was second in 21:53.91.
Making their debuts in the Cards' boat were Martha Shults, Ashley Welsh, Megan Richards, Beth Daunhauer, Dana Osoffsky, Brittany Benge, Jen Allen, Melissa Grieshaber. Jenna Sample, the only Cardinal with collegiate experience, was the coxswain.
In the other events, Louisville's top boats placed seventh in the Varsity 8+ race and 11th in the Varsity 4+ race. Virginia, which finished fifth at the 2003 NCAA Championships, won both competitions.
The Cardinals return to action October 18th when the Varsity 8+ travels to Boston for the Head of the Charles and the Novices travel to Indianapolis for the Head of the Eagle.
