LOUISVILLE, KY - Sophomore Lisa Martin scored two goals and an assist, including what would eventually turn out to be the game winner as the University of Louisville women's soccer team rolled over Youngstown State 4-1 Saturday night at Cardinal Park.
"We were focused all week in practice, and had a good week entering the match," said Martin.
"The key is that we carried that focus into the game," added Martin.
The Cards(1-2-0) jumped out to 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game when freshman Andrea Marak notched her first collegiate goal. Sophomore Heather Orahood gathered the ball on the right side ahead of the mid line and threaded a pass to freshman Hollie Minogue down the right sideline. Minogue angled in and rolled a perfect feed to Marak for the goal.
Martin gave the Cards a 2-0 advantage six and a half minutes later when she tapped home a beautiful feed from sophomore Mandy Rost.
In the 38th minute, the Penguins(1-2-0) got on the board when Diane Fellabaum converted a pass from Cerid Irvine, cutting the lead in half heading into the break.
Again the Cards scored a goal in the first five minutes of a half, when Martin again took a lead pass from Rost and beat the goalie one-on-one for her second of the game and season, putting the Cards up 3-1 at the 49:13 mark.
Freshman Megan Rasmussen tallied her first career goal in the 77th minute, when senior Melissa Wark and Martin set her up for the goal.
Louisville outshot the Penguins 29-8, including a 17-3 edge in the second half.
Sophomore Meredith Miller had three saves to pick up the win.
Louisville will host IUPUI on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park and follow with a match against Northwestern on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
