
Field Hockey Defeats Kent State 2-1

KENT, Ohio - The eleventh-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team defeated No. 10 Kent State 2-1 Saturday at Dix Field in Kent, Ohio. The Cardinals move to 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play. The game marked Louisville's first win at Kent State in its program's history.
Kent State scored the only goal in the first half Kristen Clayton assisted Kristen Johnson at the 8:03 mark.
Louisville struck in the second half on a penalty corner as Rachel Overton tipped a shot from Kim Hughes to tie the game at the 42:34 mark. The game-winning goal would again come from a Louisville penalty corner, this time Kent State goalkeeper Jessica Creeden trapped the ball with her glove, resulting in a penalty stroke. Hughes put the ball through the right side of the cage for the 2-1 win.
Louisville held an 11-7 shot advantage and was awarded nine penalty corners to KSU's six.
U of L goalkeeper Christy Hershey posted one save in the game. Creeden stopped four Louisville shots. The Golden Flashes fall to 6-2 (1-1 MAC)
Louisville (6-3, 2-0) will play host to Indiana on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
