
Field hockey edges Indiana 2-1 in double overtime

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville defeated Indiana 2-1 in double overtime Wednesday night at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 9 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.
The Cardinals generated six penalty corners within the first 20 minutes of the game, but the Hoosier defense was able to hold them to no shot attempts off of their corners.
At the 10:40 mark, Indiana freshman Mallory Reabold scored on an assist from Nikki Orciuch, giving IU a 1-0 lead that lasted throughout the first half.
The Cardinals finally got on the scoreboard with 50 seconds remaining in the contest when freshman Jen Kastelic connected on an IU goalkeeper rebound from a Joanie Frame shot to tie the game at 1-1 and send the teams into overtime.
The Hoosier defense withstood nine Cardinal shots with IU keeper Molly Pulkrabek posting four saves in the first OT period. Indiana got off one shot toward on empty cage, but Louisville defender Casey Lehman's defensive save staved off an IU win. The teams entered the second overtime period which ended 18 seconds later when senior Pip Sanders took a pass from Olivia Netzler dodged an IU defender and scored, putting the game to rest at 2-1.
The Cardinals ended the game with 21 shots to the Hoosiers three. Louisville also held a 22-2 penalty corner advantage. The Hoosiers fall to 2-8 on the season.
Louisville 7-3, (2-0 Mid-American Conference) will play host to Ball State Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
