LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Allison Kemphaus, a member of the University of Louisville rowing team, was named to the Verizon Academic District IV At-Large Third Team.
Kemphaus, who carries a 3.86 grade point average, is majoring in sports medicine and exercise science. The Ft. Wright, Ky., native rows stroke for the Cardinals' Varsity 8+ crew and is one of the top 10 lightweight rowers in the nation.
One of only two sophomores to be selected to the three teams, Kemphaus is a three-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll member and a two-time Red and Black Scholar-Athlete. Last year, she received the Cardinal Pride Award, which is given to the top student-athlete on the rowing team, and will serve as team captain for the upcoming 2002-03 season.
The district teams are made up of student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher.
Teams are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district. First team selections appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America team.
