INDIANAPOLIS, -- The Unviersity of Louisville men's and women's swim teams completed the second day of competition at the Conference USA meet. The women currently stand fifth and the men improved one place to fourth.
The women's championship, the first ever for Conference USA, is led by ECU (498) and followed by Cincinnati (492), TCU (449), Houston (384), Louisville (269) and Saint Louis (189) after the second day's events at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis.
"We were very pleased with our prelim swims in the morning. Almost everyone who raced got to come back in the evening," said Sonya Porter, U of L's women's coach. "We got very strong swims from Ann Isaacs, Angie Nicolletta and Allyson Mader had a strong performance on the 3-meter board."
Nicolletta was sixth in the 100-fly and anchored the fourth place 800-Free Relay team joined by Isaacs, Lauren Seymour and Stephanie Basler.
The men are swimming an open meet with just five C-USA schools sponsoring men's swimming. TCU (642) leads and is followed by ECU (562), Cincinnati (411), Louisville (254) and Saint Louis (231).
Once again, the men were boosted by the stellar diving by Sean Wilkinson, who swept both boards with today's win in the 1-meter. Richard Marschner finished second that boosted them into fourth place overall. James Winchester finished eighth in the 100-breast in the A final.
"This is a very competitive meet and you only get better by swimming strong opponents." said Rick Hill, U of L's men's coach. "And once again, I am very proud of Sean (Wilkinson) and Richard (Marschner) who proved they can dive with the best."
