Men's Tennis set for Omni Midwest Regional Championship

MADISON, Wis. - - Seven singles players and four doubles teams from the University of Louisville's men's tennis team will compete in the 2002 Omni Midwest Region Championship hosted by the University of Wisconsin.
Cardinal players in the singles main draw include seniors Paulo Carvalho and No. 53-ranked Cody Conley and sophomore Octavian Nicodim. Four other players: senior Harry Walsh, junior Matt Mayer and freshmen Jhonny Berrido and Jakob Gustaffson are competing in the qualifying draw.
U of L doubles teams competing in the tournament include No. 21 Conley and Nicodim; Mayer and Gustaffson; Walsh and Jake Kirts; and Berrido and Sebastian Aspillaga.
"To get an invitation to the Omni Midwest Regional Championship you have to be considered a top singles player or doubles team in the six-state region," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I am ecstatic that the selection committee has accepted an unprecedented seven singles players and four doubles teams. This shows that we are regarded as one of the top teams in the Midwest."
