LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Octavian Nicodim signed his National Letter-of-Intent to play at U of L in the fall.
Nicodim, who hails from Bucharest, Romania, is the No. 2 junior player in his country and was ranked as high as the top 50 in the junior world rankings in singles and doubles. He was a singles finalist in the Romanian Nationals and a semifinalist in the Argentinian Junior Championship. In doubles, he reached the semifinals in the international junior championships in Paraguay, Uraguay, Argentina, Egypt and Finland.
"Signing Octavian Nicodim is a big deal for Cardinal Tennis," said Ecarma. "He has been successful in the biggest tournaments in Europe, South America and the United States. My goal was to bring in players who have succeeded in big matches and are mentally tough. We definitely achieved this by signing Octavian and Todd Hiscox of Australia currently ranked No. 1 in his country. I need good players to replace two-time all-conference Tvrtko Kujundzic and Oliver Cantrell who are the only two U of L tennis players to play in two NCAA tournament and a C-USA championship teams."
U of L finished the 2001 season with a 21-9 record.
