Huntington, WV -- The University of Louisville men's golf team fell two spots and finished in 10th place at the Marshall Invitational. In the event, senior Chris Campbell finished the 54-hole tournament with a two-under-par score of 211 to finish tied for second place with three other golfers. Thirty-six-hole leader Mike Austin of Ohio State fired a 74 (+3) over the final 18 holes to hold on for the victory.
Campbell, who entered the final round three strokes behind Austin, could not get much going firing a 74 on Saturday to record his third consecutive top 10 finish and his second straight runner-up showing.
The Male High School graduate got little support from his teammates as junior Grant Sturgeon was the only other Cardinal to finish among the top 30 in the 20-team tournament. Sturgeon carded a final round 72 to finish tied for 27th place with a three-round total of 217 (+4).
Junior Dean Halterman struggled on Saturday posting a 77 to drop into a tie for 53rd place while junior Geoff Nuwash and freshman Colin Speirs finished 81st and 89th, respectively.
The Cardinals will take to the links in two weeks as they travel to the Conference USA Championships to be held in Navarre, Fla. on April 23-25.
