LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team defeated Akron 4-0 on Friday at the University of Kentucky Softball Invitational.
The Cardinals got on the board in the top of the first when Coleen Coughlin singled to reach first, stole second, moved to third on Candi Padilla's infield single and scored on Melissa Jacobo's base hit.
The Cards added three insurance runs in the fourth, when they took advantage of a walk and two Akron errors to load the bases. Keola Calderon powered a three-run double down the left field line, scoring Val Smith, Coughlin and Kenzie Meisenburg.
Louisville pitcher Tara McClure (5-1) tossed a two-hit complete game shutout and struck out seven. Akron starter Lisa Keenan (3-2) took the loss. The Zips fall to 3-3.
