OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville rowing team wrapped up a week of spring training with a dual race against Duke University Saturday afternoon on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
The Cardinals placed second in the Varsity 8+ race, just 13 seconds behind the Duke "A" boat. The nine-woman squad featured three first-year collegiate rowers as well as a rookie coxswain in freshman Christy Ochsner.
In the Varsity 4+ race, the Cards placed fourth behind three Duke boats, while the Novice 8+ crew finished third behind a pair of Blue Devil boats.
Earlier in the day, the Cardinals squared off against Cincinnati in three 1,000m exhibition races. All three races ended in virtual ties.
"This was a good week for us," said head coach Richard Ruggieri. "The team worked extremely hard and we made great strides as we head into our spring schedule."
The Cardinals return to action next weekend when they face Indiana on Saturday in Bloomington and then Dayton on Sunday in Dayton, Ohio
