The University of Louisville Men's Tennis Fall Invitational finished on Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Seven different schools took home draw titles with the University of Evansville and Wright State winning two each. U of L took home two second place finishes.
In the "A" singles division turned into a Kentucky intra-squad battle as UK's Rahim Esmail defeated Vanderbilt's Lewis Smith 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals, where he met teammate Gustav Pousette who had defeated Louisville's Alex Sivertsen 6-0, 6-0 in the semis. Sivertsen advanced to the semifinals after defeating Vanderbilt's Jens Fredriksen 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the first match of the day. Esmail won the "A" draw in the last match of the day, defeated Pousette7-6, 6-3.
Louisville's Brent McCombe advanced to the finals of the "A" consolation draw when IUPU-Ft. Wayne's Ilyes Hassib defaulted in the semifinal match. McCombe fell to Wright State's Chad Derry in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 10-7. Derry had defeated Indiana's Ryan Recht 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals.
In "B" singles, Ball State's Matt Laramore defeated Evansville's Daid Crouzet 6-2, 6-1 to move to the finals, where he met Vanderbilt's Josh Tarkoff, who had won over Evansville's Clemens Klein 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Laramore took the "B" title when he defeated Tarkoff 6-2, 6-3.
The "B" consolation draw saw Toledo's Pete Baghdati defeat Marko Saulovic of Indianapolis 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-0 and Indiana's Efraim Kandinov beat Kentucky's Elliot Datlow 6-3, 7-5 in the morning contests. Toledo's Baghdati won the final with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
Evansville's Derrick Boland defeated Lukasz Soswa of Southern Illinois 6-1, 6-1 in the finals of the "C" bracket. Boland won over Toledo's Todd Wojtkowski 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals, while Soswa had advanced by defeating Saint Louis' Yi Hsieh 6-3, 7-5.
UT-Martin's Lucas Tregansin, who had reached the "C" consolation draw finals by a defaut by Ian Leonhardt of IUPU-Ft. Wayne, claimed the title with his 6-3, 6-1 win over Eastern Kentucky's Lee Lester. Lester defeated Ryan Van Donselaar of Indianapolis 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the morning's semifinal.
Vanderbilt's Scott Brown and Lewis Smith claimed the "A" doubles title by defeating Indiana's Zach Held and Ryan Recht 8-4. Earlier in the day, Brown and Smith notched an 8-6 win over Saint Louis' Virgil Jobe and Lance Vodicka. IU claimed an 8-5 win over Louisville's Alex Sivertsen and Matt Mayer.
In the "B" doubles draw, U of L's Brent McCombe and Sebastian Aspillaga advanced to the finals after they defeated Austin Peay's Justin Keller and Matt Gregory 8-5. Evansville's David Crouzet and Troy Gillham, reached the finals, having topped IUPU-Ft. Wayne's Ilyes Hassib and Matt Graham 8-4 on Saturday night. Evansville's Crouzet and Gillham edged Sivertsen and Aspillaga 9-8 (4) in the final to win the "B" title.
Wright State's Chad Camper and Jim Grombacker combined to win the "C" doubles after they defeated UT-Martin's Lucas Tragansin and Jay Clark 8-0 in the semifinals and Evansville's Derrick Boland and Luis Arguello 8-5 in the finals. Boland and Arguello had defeated Louisville's Mark Kennedy and Ball State's Michael Heule 9-8 in the semifinals.
