Men and Women Finish Seventh at Conference USA Cross Country Championships

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The University of Louisville cross country teams wrapped up their seasons with a pair of seventh-place finishes Saturday morning at the 2001 Conference USA Championships in Greenville, N.C. The event, hosted by East Carolina University, was held at Overton's Lake Kristi.
Tulane won the men's championship with 61 points, edging Marquette by just two points. Marquette captured the women's championship with 46 points, followed by South Florida with 60 points.
Freshman Brian Hurst led the Cardinal men with a 39th-place finish with a time of 25:25.3. Juniors Chris Cox (25:28.6) and Mike Horan (25:43.9) also placed in the top 50 for the Cards, finishing 41st and 49th, respectively.
Eliud Njubi of TCU won the 8000m race with a time of 23:09.3.
On the women's side, senior Alicia Cavender paced the Cardinals with a time of 21:31.2 to place 26th. Junior Marea Ingwersen (21:52.0) came in 38th and sophomore Emily Daunhauer (22:15.8) placed 48th to round out U of L's top-50 runners.
Gladys Keitany of TCU ran the 6000m race in 19:44.5 to win the women's event. She was the lone runner under 20 minutes.
