Louisville - - Anastasia Zaitseva had 16 kills to lead Louisville to a 3-1 win over Tulane in Conference USA Volleyball action last night at Cardinal Arena.
The Cardinals, now 9-6, won 15-4, 15-9, 10-15, 15-6 to move their league mark to 3-4. Tulane is now 10-7.
Louisville had an even-handed offense with five players in double digit kills. Stacey Mercer had 13, with Bing Sun and Kelly McClain each adding 12. Middle blocker Lesley Drury had 10 with four blocks.
"We were much more cohesive as a unit and our blocking was improved," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "Tulane is very athletic, but had some difficulty hitting over our block."
Louisville outblocked the Green Wave 14-5.
Yelin tinkered with the lineup in game three and Tulane took advantage of the brief adjustment period. It was the first time since 1996 that Tulane has taken a game from the Cardinals. In that set, the Cards were outhit .245 to .113. However, U of L bounced back immediately, rolling over the Green Wave 15-6 in the fourth and final game. In that game, Louisville hit .345.
Tulane was led by Kim Sentmore's 16 kills. Erin Dobyanski had 10 kills and two aces.
Louisville will travel to Southern Miss for a conference match on Sunday in Hattiesburg.
