Charlotte scored goals 37 seconds apart early in the second half, vaulting them to a 3-0 victory over Louisville in women's soccer action Friday night at Cardinal Park.
Merideth Mayo beat Cardinal(1-16-1, 0-10-0) goalkeeper Lynn Clashman at 51:03, and on a free kick along the benches, Jill Currie lead Lindsay Duncan who slipped it past Clashman for the 3-0 lead at 51:40.
"You have to credit Charlotte and their patience on attack," said Cardinal Head Coach Karen Ferguson. "But our team did an outstanding job being patient defensively, which lead to some good opportunities on the other end."
Charlotte(10-6-1, 7-1-1) opened the scoring at the 8:59 mark when Currie headed home a cross from Dawn Geyer giving the 49ers a 1-0 lead. It was Currie's fourth in the past two games and 30th of her career, ranking her second all-time at Charlotte. Currie had a goal and two assists. Clashman had 11 saves in the contest
Charlotte controlled play in the first half, but U of L mounted two seperate attacks resulting in shots on goal from Dana Edler and Lynda Keeton. In the 22nd minute the Cards were awarded a free kick five yards from the top of the box and Amber Jolley's attempt at her team leading seventh goal was thwarted by Niners keeper Andrea Kollmorgen who made a diving stop for one of her seven saves.
The Cards will wrap up the Conference USA and home portion of the schedule Sunday when they host South Florida at 2:00 in Cardinal Park. Julie Zastrow and Keeton will be honored for senior day. Admission is free.
