Michael Mather (1996-98) reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament in the spring of 1998, becoming the Cardinals' first tennis All-American. He had entered the tournament with a perfect 22-0 dual match record, the only college player in the nation that year to go undefeated in the regular season at that time.
Mather earned first team All-Conference USA honors as a junior and senior. He finished his senior year ranked 13th in the nation in singles, the highest ranking ever for a UofL tennis player. He is one of only six players in school history to record at least 30 overall wins. He compiled a 20-8 overall record and went 13-3 in dual matches as a junior after transferring from Notre Dame.
