Cards Secure 6-3 Win Over Cal to Even the Series

SARATOGA, Calif. — The University of Louisville softball team recorded a 6-3 victory over California on Friday at Viking Field, using an 11-hit performance and a three-run fourth inning to secure the win and even the series.
Louisville (31-8, 7-4 ACC) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Chelsea Mack went 3-for-4 on the day and led off with a single before stealing second. Bri Despines finished 1-for-4 with an RBI single to plate Mack, and Madison Pickens added a sacrifice fly to score Easton Lotus, giving the Cardinals an early 2-0 advantage.
Cal answered in the second inning with two runs on a pair of solo home runs, evening the score at 2-2.
The Cardinals regained the lead in the third. Lotus, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI, singled and advanced into scoring position before Camryn Lookadoo delivered an RBI ground-rule double to make it 3-2.
Louisville extended its lead in the fourth inning, sending seven batters to the plate and scoring three runs on four hits. Jordan Williams singled to open the frame and Riley Janda (2-for-3) followed with a double. Mack then drove in two runs with a triple to right center, and Lotus added an RBI single to push the lead to 6-2.
In the circle, Brooke Gray (9-1) earned the win, allowing three runs on three hits through six innings while striking out three. Alyssa Zabala entered in the seventh to record the final three outs. The Golden Bears scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, but Louisville limited the damage to secure the 6-3 result.
Louisville totaled 11 hits in the game, with Mack recording three hits, and Lotus, Williams, and Janda added two apiece. The Cardinals also recorded two stolen bases and executed two sacrifice plays in the win.
The Cardinals will look to secure the series in the final game against Cal on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET on ACCNX.
