Joe Salem

Joe Salem is in his third season with the Louisville men's soccer program and the first as the volunteer assistant coach.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Salem joined the Cardinals following three seasons playing professionally for the Puerto Rico Islanders in the NASL. While playing in the midfield for the Islanders, Salem won the 2010 USSF Division 2 championship, the 2010 and 2011 Caribbean Football Union Championships and advanced to the 2010 and 2011 CONCACAF Champions League Tournament. In 2011, he was chosen as the Islanders' most improved player. He was also called up to the Puerto Rico national team for 2012 friendlies vs Nicaragua, but missed the games due to injury.
Collegiately, Salem attended the University of Tulsa where he was a First Team All-Conference USA selection for the Golden Hurricane. He was also named to the C-USA All-Tournament Team and was a First Team NSCAA All-Midwest selection. Named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List while in Tulsa, he was also a member of three straight C-USA regular season and tournament title teams while also serving as captain for the program's 2009 NCAA quarterfinal squad.
A 2009 graduate of the University of Tulsa with degrees in international business and Spanish, Salem holds his U.S. Soccer "D" coaching license and is working towards an MBA in marketing and finance at the University of Louisville.
