Sophomore: As a sophomore, Cowley swam her first BIG EAST Championships on the scoring team, earning points in every event she swam. Cowley made the A-final in the 100-freestyle placing 8th in 50.76 a season best. In the B- final, Cowley placed 10th in the 200-freestyle in 1:48.93, a best time and 15th in the 50-freestyle in 23.60. Cowley was chosen to represent the Cardinals at the SMU Classic. Cowley competed in the B-finals of her three events placing 11th in the 100-freestyle, 12th in the 50- and 200-freestyle. She anchored the 200- and 400-freestyle relays that earned 5th and 6th place respectively. Cowley was honored to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Freshman: Hanna added depth to the Cardinals middle distance and sprint freestylers... At the BIG EAST Championships, she competed in the 200-IM, 200-free, and 100-free... Despite being an exhibition swimmer, Hanna posted times that would have scored points... In the 200-IM she posted a time of 2:04. 48... She swam to a 1:50. 78 in the 200-free and a 50.93 in the 100-free... In the fall, Hanna posted the fastest 200-free for the Cardinals at the Tennessee Invite with a 1:50.73... Against Tennessee she finished fourth in the 200-free and finished fourth in the 200-IM against UK.

Prep: Hanna Cowley joins the Cardinals by way of Club Wolverine, which is coached by Bailey Weathers. She has an undefeated record at the Michigan High School State Championships and is the only swimmer to ever win a state championship from the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. In 2009, Cowley was a part of the state championship 200- and 400-free relay teams. In all, she was a 10-time Michigan state champion, an eight-time All-American and a 12 time-All-State selection. She was a member the Michigan Dream Team. Johanna's times of 50.71 and 1:49.96 in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events will play a major role in the competitiveness of the Louisville freestyle relays.
