Alex comes to U of L for his first year of medical school and his last year of eligibility as a swimmer. The NCAA Division III record holder in the 50- freestyle, Alex Sweet turned in a blazing time of 19.85 to break the NCAA Division III record of 19.90 set by Denison's Aaron Cole in 1999. He competed at the United States Olympic Trials and finished tied for 64th overall out of 113 competitors in the 50- freestyle event. At Washington and Lee he was a three-year letterwinner and set records in seven events. A nine-time All-American, he was also a three-time All-Bluegrass Mountain selection as well as a school-record holder in the 100 free (45.25). He took sixth in the 100 free at the 2007 NCAA's in a time of 45.24 to garner First Team All-America accolades and break his own school record. He also earned First Team All-America honors as a member of three relays (200-free (2nd), 800-free (3rd), 400-free (6th)) at 2007 NCAAs. He helped to set school records in each of those relays. He earned Honorable Mention All-America status with a 13th-place finish in the 50- free (20.94) and a 15th-place finish in the 400-medley relay (3:29.36) at NCAA's. The Louisville native went to Kentucky Country Day High School and swam for Lakeside.
Personal: He is the son of Rick and Janet Sweet. He was born July 23, 1985. He was a biochemistry major and is now in medical school.
