The University of Louisville head field hockey coach Justine Sowry announced that Erin Schneidtmiller will join her staff as an assistant coach on May 28, 2024.
Â
Schneidtmiller, who played for the Cardinals from 2010 through 2013, returned to her alma mater where she spent three seasons (2018-20) as assistant coach on Sowry’s staff.
In her four seasons as an assistant at Louisville, Schneidtmiller helped guide the Cardinals to 49 wins and an NCAA semifinal (2020) along with an additional quarterfinal appearance (2019).
Most recently in a rebuilding year, following the loss of seven seniors due to graduation, Louisville tallied a 6-11 overall record in 2024. Aimee Plumb earned her third NFHCA All-America honor and was selected to the NFHCA All-West Region team along with Izzy Bianco.
Â
For the previous two seasons (2022 and 2023), Schneidtmiller served as an assistant coach at Bellarmine as the Knights completed their transition to Division I. Most recently, she helped guide Bellarmine to a school record in wins since moving to Division I with seven- including a trio of MAC victories in 2023.Â
Â
Schneidtmiller helped guide the Cardinals to several historic achievements in the 2020-21 COVID-impacted season. The Cardinals finished the campaign with a 14-6 overall record and ranked as high as No. 2 in the spring season. In the fall, the Cards won the ACC regular season title and earned the top seed in the conference tournament after producing a 5-1 record which included a win over two-time defending national champion North Carolina, snapping the Tar Heels' NCAA-best 47-game win streak.
That year, UofL earned the overall No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament, marking the second straight season as a national seed, and went on to beat No. 6 UConn in the quarterfinals to advance to its first NCAA semifinal. The Cardinals battled with the No. 2 seed Michigan but eventually fell 2-1 in a sudden-victory shootout.
Schneidtmiller also helped UofL achieve numerous milestones in the 2019 campaign. The squad produced a 16-6 overall record, tying a program mark for wins and earned the overall No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament, serving as a host site for the first time in program history. Louisville also made its first foray to the NCAA quarterfinals after defeating Michigan 2-1 in double-overtime in its first-round matchup.
In her first year as an assistant coach at UofL, Schneidmiller helped guide the 2018 Cardinals to a 13-6 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the ACC, finishing third in the regular season standings. Louisville spent seven weeks in the NFHCA top 10, reaching as high as No. 8.
Schneidtmiller initially joined Sowry's coaching staff after three seasons as an assistant coach at American University (2015-17). During her time there, she helped direct the Eagles to 39 wins, two Patriot League finals and the 2016 league championship followed by an NCAA tournament appearance.
Prior to her stint at American, Schneidtmiller worked with the field hockey team at her high school alma mater Louisville's Mercy Academy and coached with Bluegrass Elite field hockey club. After graduating from Louisville in 2014, she continued her playing career in Bremen, Germany with the Bremer Hockey Club.
Â
A four-year letterwinner with the Cardinals, Schneidtmiller earned first-team All-BIG EAST and All-West Region accolades in her senior campaign. That year, she ranked third on the team with nine goals and 21 points, helping lead Louisville to a 15-5 overall record and a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title. The three-time All-Big East Conference academic selection graduated from UofL in May 2014 with a bachelor's degree in communications.
