This marks the Cards' first Atlantic Coast Conference loss of the season and second overall, both by three points.
The Cards went back and forth with the Demon Deacons, with five lead changes.
Lincoln Kienholz ended the game with 27 completions on 36 attempts for 324 yards and a touchdown, along with two touchdowns on the ground. Kienholz is the first quarterback in school history to score six rushing touchdowns in the first four games of his Louisville career.
Jaleel Skinner scored on a 61-yard pass from Kienholz with just under a minute remaining in the first half.
Stanquan Clark and T.J. Capers led Louisville defensively, each securing double digit tackles with 12 and 10, respectively.
Louisville Head Coach Jeff Brohm said:
"Disappointing Saturday without question, didn't play very sharp at all, it cost us. We've been doing it every week. There's a lot of things you've got to get fixed, it falls on the head coach. So, we have to find other ways to get these things fixed better and play way more efficient, way smarter. You're not going to win against good teams if you continue to do dumb things. You have to play Wake too. Wake made way too many plays to do that, we gave up big plays, we weren't able to run the ball. We had way too many penalties and it cost us."How it Happened
