Cards Secure Sweep of Georgia Tech
March 29, 2026 | Softball
This marks the Cards' first sweep over Georgia Tech since 2019.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The University of Louisville softball team (29-7, 6-3 ACC) defeated Georgia Tech (19-20, 5-10 ACC) by a 3-1 margin on Sunday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium to complete its first sweep of an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent since 2023.
Alyssa Zabala (7-2) tossed her second complete game of the season en route to the win. Through her 7.0 innings of work, Zabala allowed just three hits, one run and one walk while striking out four batters. Ava Venturelli launched her third home run of the year, a solo shot to center field for her only hit of the day. Camryn Lookadoo and Taylor Monroe added the other two RBIs, both on sacrifice flies, while Chelsea Mack and Easton Lotus scored the runs.
Both pitchers kept the game quiet through the first three innings. Zabala gave up one hit in the top of the fourth but some quick defense left the runner stranded. Lotus led off the home half of the inning with a single before Lookadoo and Madison Pickens were both hit by a pitch to load the bases. Monroe hit her sac fly to center field to plate Lotus and give the Cards a 1-0 lead.
Another 1-2-3 half inning from Zabala put UofL back at the plate. Venturelli made quick work, leading off the bottom of the fifth with her solo home run. The bases loaded on an error, a single and a walk, and Lookadoo capitalized with a sac fly of her own to bring in Mack for Louisville's final run.
After a scoreless sixth, Georgia Tech's Holly Medina knocked her own solo shot for the Yellow Jackets' lone run of the day. Zabala retired the final four batters, closing out the game and sealing the win.
The Cards will head on the road to face Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, March 31, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+ at Gertrude Hood Field.Â
