LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams will open the 2026 outdoor season this weekend when they split between a pair of meets in Florida.

The squads will be represented at both the Black & Gold Challenge in Orlando on Mar. 20 and the USF Alumni Invitational in Tampa on Mar. 20-21.

A small group of distance runners will open their outdoor season at the Black & Gold Challenge, hosted by the University of Central Florida at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex on Mar. 20.

The Cardinals will field athletes in both the 1500m and the 5000m on Friday night, with the invitational section of the women's 1500m set to begin the evening's competition for Louisville athletes at 7:10 p.m. ET.

Lucinda Rourke will make her outdoor debut for the Cards after redshirting the outdoor season during her first year in Louisville, looking to build off an indoor season that saw her record the two fastest mile times in program history.

On the men's side, Ryan Farrell will also make his return to the outdoor track for the first time since 2024 after redshirting last season. The redshirt senior notably placed fourth in the men's 800m at the 2025 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Louisville sprinters and throwers will begin the outdoor season at the USF Alumni Invitational, hosted by the University of South Florida at the USF Track & Field Stadium, over two days on Mar. 20-21.

Friday's competition will begin in the field at 10:00 a.m. ET with the men's javelin throw, while the day's track events will begin for the Cards at 5:00 p.m. ET with the women's 400m hurdles.

Kaia Tupu-South will make her outdoor debut for the Cardinals after capping her indoor season with a third-place finish in the women's shot put at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 28.

Additionally, Matt Giuliano will look to build off his solid indoor campaign where he set a Louisville freshman record in the men's weight throw three different times over the course of the season.
